Welcome
Welcome to the Lets Change the World Next Tuesday After Lunch blog.
Well whats all this about I hear you ask ? I am well aware that one guy, on a little island(Australia), in the pacific ocean, can’t single handedly change the planet, but I can’t sit back anymore and do nothing either. The name of this blog is based on the idea that for too long, I have done nothing except just put it off till next tuesday after lunch. We all have.
Many years ago my chemistry teacher gave us an open assignment to do, and I had no idea what to do it on. He suggested I read some chemistry magazines he had and see if that helped. So I did. This was in the early 1970′s. I found an interesting article, on what was just a theory based on a possible chemical reaction. The theory was that CFC’s might be destorying the ozone layer. I remember discussing this and being ridiculed and being told that I was just too young and the idea was just a theory and not based on any evidence.
I believed that this chemist was right, and have watched the scientific and general community, slowly come around to agreeing with this. I do not think that today anyone can seriously look inside themselves and not know that we need to do something, and that well lets face it, things are not good or looking like they are going to get better anytime soon. We all know in our hearts that we are in trouble.
I know I don’t have the magic bullet, nor am I able to suggest one thing that can fix the many issues we face as a planet, but I figured I could try by doing this. This is just my little social experiment to see if I can make a change. I am just suggesting a few thoughts I have and hopefully others will join me, and eventually we get big enough and have enough simple ideas, that we get Oprah on board, she has a quiet word to Barack, and badda bing badda boom, we actually start to fix things before its too late.
I honestly believe that through discussion and then implementation of simple idea’s, and taking the issues seriously, even if its just on a grass roots level, we can change the world, and although a few tuesday lunches may go by, eventually it may be enough. We may not get Oprah on board straight away but you never know where little ideas can end up.
It was this article that got me thinking enough is enough, as I really don’t want to keep hearing how things are getting worse. Lets do these little things now. Lets think about it all and see if we can do more. We can’t rely on our leaders as they are too busy worrying about winning next election to do enough. That’s just the reality of the situation, and also passing the buck. No more sitting thinking *what could I possibly do* because personally I realized the answer to that is *a lot more than I have been*
Like most people I am a (guilty of being)consumer and I love to shop and buy new things, like gadgets, but I am now thinking a lot harder about the choices I make. I drive a small second hand car that’s 40 years old and a 4 cylinder. I have a second hand phone I bought off ebay after mine got stolen. The stereo in my car is over 10 years old (and partly bought second hand) but I managed to win the National(and state) Car Audio Sound Quality championship title with it in Pro-class in 2007. You don’t always need new stuff, or the latest technology. I am not what locally we would call a tree hugging greenie radical, but I am a concerned citizen of the greatest planet I know of.
I am not writing this to do anything other than hopefully get a few ideas into peoples minds of what can be done. The idea’s are not new or mine, but I figure me doing this, with your help, could grow into something bigger, and as I said before, from little things big things grow, just not in those words.
One of the saddest things I have read was from a late scientist who worked at Australia’s C.S.I.R.O, and he stated that the saddest thing, he had seen in his life, was that we basically had the technology to solve the worlds problems, in the 1950′s and failed to implement it. I think nothing has changed since then.
I really need your help with this, yes you. Don’t click away and pretend you never saw this, take a few minutes/hours/days(but don’t let next Tuesday lunch go by again) to think about it, and tell me what you can add. Please.
If you have any ideas then please let us all know, and together we may start to turn things around before next Tuesday….after lunch.
I guess this blog has the odds stacked against it, but if you found it, maybe others will too. Please help me in this quest. Lets make an impact on all our futures today.
Thank you for reading this and please come back, now and then to add ideas or just see what idea’s others have suggested.
